FLEA-MARKET CHIC

For those of you thinking this title is an oxymoron.  I have set out to prove you wrong, and share all the benefits there are to leading a thrifty existence.

Benefit One:
The most obvious reason for most to shop thrifty is cost.  You have to out in some time when it comes to searching for those special vintage items but you can almost always score a good deal if you stick to it!

Benefit Two:
When you shop thrifty, you are also helping to preserve special relics from another time. If you have appreciation of where we've been then you can better appreciate where newer styles are going and the subtle differences between what is new and what is older,

Benefit Three
The benefit that I consider most important is the greener aspect of shopping for previously-owned items. Everything that we can do to help the earth is important. When you buy things used that is one less newer item that needs to be made. Not to mention that many things were made a higher quality than they are now because everything is mass produced overseas.

These are just a few benefits that I have listed so if you are still doubting I've included some visual examples of flea-market chic spaces that I know will make you reconsider...

Another thought for all of you thinking, "well, I doubt there is anything that suits my style".
Styles are being repeated all the time, weather in be in Interiors or Fashion. If your style is modern then mid-century modern style items could suit you. If you have a rustic style there are plenty of antiquities with lots of character that should work.
Plus, you can always find something to make new again with new upholstery or paint! :)

Into the idea but still might think you need some help?

Wallpaper making a comeback!

Lookout paint!

For those of you that have been through it once before I know you are probably thinking "your kidding me" right?  Although this interior finish is making a comeback, it is being applied in fun, new, and modern ways!  So, open your mind and I'll review a few different ways to applying wallpaper and making a new statement with your space!

One example of application is the accent wall.  Most have been painting their walls plain for the last few years don't fret.  The current trend is to pick a paper, do an accent wall of that paper, and the other walls paint with a complimenting color.

Another, more traditional, application is doing all of your walls in paper.  This application (although slightly more costly) provides one with a more bold look.  If this is your preference it is a good idea to keep everything else in the room more subtle.

Now, if you just can't seem to jump into the paper trend, or are still enjoying your painted walls, then you may consider adding a little flair to your space with some painted stripes.  This affect is more cost effective and mimics the look of wall paper without actually applying it.  All you need is a little painters tape and a complimenting color to your existing color or even a glossy version of your color.

Lastly, just for fun...
Check out this unique application.  The room is designed / wallpapered to create the illusion that the room is on its side! The D'espresso Cafe in New York, located on Madison Ave.  SO COOL!

Headphone Wrapping

Obsession of the Day: Headphone Wrapping!

This is just the cutest idea, and I can't wait to try it!
Absolutely the best way to personalize your earbuds. You can wrap them so easily using yarn or embroidery string. And the options are endless for colors and designs. The method shown is known as the chinese staircase which I believe looks the best.
Not only does this little technique make your earbuds more unique, but it protects them, and keeps them from getting tangled as easily. Give it a try! :)
